Parent Resource Centers

Ward 8 Parent Resource Center at M.C. Terrell Elementary School - 3301 Wheeler Rd, SE

The Parent Resource Center (PRCs) were created to provide learning opportunities for parents, provide workshops and training, and provide access to DCPS and community resources.

By creating these opportunities, it is our belief that we will support an environment that will allow parents, guardians, and families to further support their child’s ability to succeed in school.

The Ward 8 Parent Resource Center at M.C. Terrell Elementary School will run the following programming for the month of December 2012:

Workshop Descriptions

Workshop Descriptions - All workshops and classes are free. Fitness Camp is only $20.00 per month
PRC Computer Lab - Open Monday – Thursday for adults and youth to utilize for employment search, resume building, homework, email and personal use. Assistance is provided by the PRC staff.
Free Computer Classes- Parent Resource Center is offering computer classes for beginners. The classes will focus on learning the basics from turning the computer on to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, setting up email accounts and how to set up and navigate social networking sites. The classes will be instructed by Andre Lamp MS, Informational Management Services.
Zumba and Fitness Classes - An adventure for the body & mind, FruFitness Camp is an energizing, high/low intensity fitness camp that will be fun and challenging both physically and mentally, but will leave you feeling refreshed and alive! Classes will be taught by Patrice Johnson, Licensed certified trainer. $20.00 per month.
“Living in Harmony” - Family Rules workshop
Discussion will focus on the importance of having family rules. Emphasis will be placed on developing family rules that promote better behavior and clearer communication between all members of the family.
“The Gathering Spot” Family Meetings workshop - Discussion will focus on why family meetings are an important parenting tool and how all members of the family can benefit.
Free General Educational Development (GED) - It’s never too late to earn the equivalent of your high school diploma. Make yourself more marketable to employers, and start on the path to taking college courses. This program is guaranteed to make you feel a great sense of accomplishment. Taught by Instructor, Kimberly Johnson. Classes will begin in December, please call the PRC to register 202-645-6617
Energy Efficient Workshop - Workshop will provide guidance and suggestions to improve the long-term financial security for all through education and advocacy. Workshop will be facilitated by WISER Inc
Financial literacy Workshop – Workshop will help you to understand your personal finances. You will learn skills and become knowledgeable to make informed and effective decisions regarding your finances.
