dTV Transition Consumer Protection Information

The DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) wants all District residents to know that on February 17, 2009 your television may not work. Federal law requires that all full-power television broadcast stations stop broadcasting in analog format and broadcast only in digital format.

It is also important to know that the end of analog broadcasting does not mean that District of Columbia residents must buy new TVs, and you certainly don’t need an HDTV to watch digital broadcasts. If you currently receive over-the-air programming on an analog television using a broadcast antenna, either through “rabbit ears” on your set or an antenna on your roof, you will only need a digital-to-analog converter box to continue watching broadcast television. These boxes will cost about $40 to $70, and will be in stores beginning in early 2008.

DCRA's Office of Consumer Protection is here to answer all your DTV Transition questions and will be hosting informational sessions in your ward throughout the summer. Stay tuned to dcra.dc.gov for more information.

Upcoming Information Sessions in Your Neighborhood. More coming. Stay Tuned!
