Federal Trade Commission Holds Identity Theft Briefing June 26
Identity theft is a serious crime: It affects nearly 10 million Americans a year and costs US businesses a whopping $50 billion a year.
At a White House event on May 10, 2006, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras unveiled a new outreach campaign on avoiding identity theft. The "Avoid ID Theft" campaign aims to enlist organizations and consumers in a nationwide education effort on how to deter, detect, and defend against ID theft. To learn more about the campaign, please visit
the FTC
website.
The FTC invites you to a briefing to learn about the various elements of the campaign and ways to participate. By supplying materials that spell out actionable tips on deterring, detecting, and defending against identity theft, we hope to get your help in minimizing the potential damage this crime can cause. We hope you will attend.
