Roled of the Technical Advisory Groups

The Construction Codes Coordinating Board (CCCB) has authority to establish Technical Advisory Groups (TAG) to assist the CCCB in evaluating changes, additions or deletions to a particular model code (or codes) within the International Codes (I-Codes) published by the International Code Council. Each TAG is established and directed by the CCCB and chaired by a CCCB member, pursuant to the procedures established by the CCCB By-Laws, adopted August 2009.  The public may participate in a TAG’s discussions and meetings, but only those TAG members approved by the CCCB may vote on TAG recommendations to the CCCB.

Technical Advisory Group Work-Plan

Establish Procedures

The Board will charge a technical advisory group with its mission, including its reporting requirements.  Each technical advisory group shall establish the procedure which, in its opinion, will facilitate its mission. Technical advisory groups may not speak for the Board.

Evaluate Petitions Referred By the CCCB Chairperson

The TAGS will review any and all petitions received and forwarded by the CCCB  Chairperson to the designated TAG based on one or more of the following  criteria:

  1. The proposed amendment is needed to safeguard the public health, life/safety  and general welfare of the District of Columbia.
  2. The proposed amendment is needed to address a specific District of  Columbia policy or statute.
  3. The proposed amendment is needed for consistency with federal
regulations, or those of adjoining states (MD, VA).
  4. The proposed amendment is needed to address a unique character of the  District of Columbia.
  5. The proposed amendment corrects errors and omissions.

Propose Code Change Amendments

The TAG may submit petitions to amend the construction code pursuant to  #2 above.

Adopt TAG Recommendations

The TAG will vote on specific proposals within the time period specified by the CCCB. Only those members of the TAG who have been approved by the CCCB may vote on any TAG recommendations.

The Chair of the TAG will forward any recommendations to the CCCB Chairperson in a form that clearly references the applicable I-Codes or NEC provision being amended and which clearly states the proposed language in a suitable format.

Other Work as Assigned

The Technical Advisory Groups shall perform other functions as specified by the Construction Codes Coordinating Board, and shall undertake research or review on any technical issues that are identified by the TAG in the course of its activities and which the TAG Chair believes warrants further study or consideration.
