CCCB Procedures

Construction Crane

The Construction Codes Coordinating Board (CCCB) reviews and accepts or rejects proposals for changes, deletions and/or additions to the District of Columbia’s Construction Codes. The District of Columbia adopts the International Codes (I-Codes) published by the International Code Council (ICC), and the National Electrical Code (NEC) published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), subject to any changes, deletions and/or additions to the I-Codes or the NEC as set forth in Title 12 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR). The District of Columbia has adopted 11 of the 2012 I-Codes and the NFPA’s 2011 NEC, effective as of March 28, 2014. The 2013 District of Columbia Construction Codes can be viewed here.

Technical Advisory Groups are established to support the work of the Board. Additional information about the Board's Technical Advisory Groups may be viewed here.

Decisions by the Board are provided to the Mayor of the District of Columbia as proposed rulemakings subject to public comment procedures and action by the City Council pursuant to the Construction Codes Act (DC Official Code § 6-1401 et seq)

Any individual or entity may submit a petition for the CCCB’s review and approval of a change, deletion or addition to the I-Codes, the NEC or the District of Columbia Supplement (12 DCMR). For instructions on how to submit a petition for the review and approval of a change, deletion or addition, refer to the separate instruction sheet and petition form available here.
