Permits - Certification of Structural Design
The District of Columbia Construction Codes authorizes DCRA to accept the certification of a District of Columbia licensed structural engineer in lieu of structural review of the plans by DCRA. Acceptance of the certification is at the discretion of the Chief Building Official, and does not exempt the permit applicant from non-structural reviews of the plans by DCRA. In order to qualify under the structural certification provision, the property owner and a professional engineer duly licensed in DC in the field of structural engineering must both sign and certify that the plans were prepared by or under the supervision of the undersigned engineer. A Request for Acceptance of Certification of Structural Design must be submitted with the plans using the form below.
