ALERT: All Walk-Through Permits Must Be Completed Online
Coming this fall, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) will only accept permit applications and plans electronically for walk-through permits to make the review process move quickly, efficiently, and transparent.
A walk-through permit is determined by a specific job classification based on square footage, scope of work and use. These permits are typically reviewed and approved on the same day. For more details on job types for a walk-through permit, please review the following document: Job Classification System.
A walk-through permit is issued by following these key steps:
- Applicants must create an account in the DCRA Citizen Portal
- Submit electronically a permit application, plans, and relevant documentation for review
- Visit the Permit Review Center for approval and permit issuance. DCRA will stamp your paper copy of the approved plans which must be maintained at the construction site/property.
It’s important to know that only plans submitted online will be reviewed for approval at the Permit Center. DCRA will not review plan changes that have not been uploaded prior to an in-person visit. For additional information, please call 202-442-4400 or visit dcra.dc.gov.
