DCRA’s Small Business Resource Center To Host Second Annual Build It In DC Forum

Event Will Provide Advice and Support to Current and Aspiring Contractors

Washington, DC – The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs’ (DCRA) Small Business Resource Center (SBRC) will host its second annual Build It In DC forum on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  Build It In DC is a free event offered to current and aspiring general and home improvement contractors interested in starting or growing a business in the District of Columbia.

Build It In DC will offer informational sessions on the District’s regulatory process, green building, financing, and construction trends—and will include panel discussions conducted in Spanish.  Informational sessions feature panelists from the government and private sector.  Bryan Scottie Irving, Blue Skye Development Construction, will serve as the keynote speaker for this year’s event.

“DCRA is committed to finding ways to encourage new businesses to thrive, and the best advice for that very often comes from those who have run businesses themselves,” said DCRA Director Melinda Bolling.  “Build It In DC offers new or emerging businesses the opportunity to learn from those who are doing it successfully now.”

Build It In DC is just one of many events and trainings provided by DCRA’s SBRC.  During the past year, the Small Business Resource Center hosted 71 symposiums or workshops and conducted 680 one-on-one counseling sessions.  SBRC is available for one-on-one counseling sessions for businesses by appointment Monday-Friday at 1100 4th Street SW.
