Multiple Agencies Working Jointly To Ensure Vending Licensees’ Licensing, Health, and Safety Compliance
Attention: All Licensed Vendors
As you may be aware, several agencies within the District Government are tasked with protecting the safety and welfare of residents and visitors in the District of Columbia. Some of these agencies include: Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Public Works (DPW), and Fire and EMS Department (DC FEMS).
In the interest of providing the necessary oversight to meet this mission, these agencies will be working jointly in the coming months to ensure licensees’ compliance with the District’s licensing, health, and safety laws.
Please be aware that when you are operating your business, you are required to have and provide proof of licensure and all required health and safety permits. In order to be in compliance with the law, we strongly urge you to review your required licenses, permits, and certificates of authority to be sure that all are up to date.
To assist you in meeting compliance, below is a list of some of the required government-issued documents:
1. A current and valid DCRA business license for vending food, cigarettes, merchandise, or services;
2. For all Class A vendors, a current and valid health certificate and vehicle sticker from DOH;
3. For all Class A vendors, a current and valid CFPM ID Card from DOH;
4. For all vendors using propane, a current and valid operational propane permit from DC FEMS.
Please refer to our website at www.dcra.dc.gov where specific information is posted on the laws governing street vending, as well as contact information for each agency involved in issuing the required license, permits, and certificates.
Although each regulatory agency hopes each vendor is in full compliance with the applicable laws, each agency may, at any time, issue citations for any identified infractions. This is done to protect the health and safety of consumers in the District of Columbia.
