Certificate of Liability Insurance: General Information
Some applicants for a Basic Business License for a Regulated Business must furnish a Certificate of Liability Insurance which:

is issued to your organization as registered with the Corporations Division

is issued to the premise address provided on the Basic Business License Application
-
includes a Description and Location of services (i.e., General Contractor in Washington, DC)
-
displays the certificate holder as "Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, 1100 4th Street, SW, 5th Floor, Washington, DC 20024."

remains in full force and effect for the duration of the license period
P.O. Boxes are not acceptable as the insured’s premise address.
The licensee is required to give written proof of advance notice to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Business Licensing Division prior to the cancellation or lapse of the policy.

Class A: Applicant applying for Class A license limits of at least two and a half million dollars ($2,500,000) per occurrence (umbrella) for bodily injury and property damage arising in any way from the issuance of the license. The holder of a Class A license is subject to no limitation as to the value of any single contract;

Class B: Applicant applying for Class B license limits of at least one and a half million dollars ($1,500,000) per occurrence (umbrella) for bodily injury and property damage arising in any way from the issuance of the license. The holder of a Class B license is not entitled to engage in the construction of any single contract project of a value in excess of ten million dollars ($10,000,000);

Class C: Applicant applying for Class C license limits of at least five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per occurrence, one million dollars ($1,000,000) in the aggregate combined single limit for bodily injury or property damage arising in any way from the issuance of the license. The holder of a Class C license is not entitled to engage in the construction of any single contract project of a value in excess of five million dollars ($5,000,000);

Class G: Applicant applying for Class G license limits of at least five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per occurrence, one million dollars ($1,000,000) in the aggregate combined single limit for bodily injury or property damage arising in any way from the issuance of the license. The holder of a Class G license is not entitled to engage in the construction of any single contract project of a value in excess of two million dollars ($2,000,000);

Class H: Applicant applying for Class H license limits of at least five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per occurrence for bodily injury or property damage arising in any way from the issuance of the license. The holder of a Class H license is not entitled to engage in the construction of any single contract project of a value in excess of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000);

Tow Truck Storage Lot Details (Certificate of Garage Keeper's Legal Liability Insurance)
Each applicant shall furnish a certificate of Garage Keeper's Legal Liability Insurance Policy for the license period pursuant to DC Official Code and DC Municipal Regulations. Each applicant must secure an original all-risk or public liability insurance policy, which provides a minimum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) in full force and effect for the duration of the license period per DC Official Code and DC Municipal Regulations. The licensee is required to give written proof of advance notice to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Business Licensing Division prior to the cancellation or lapse of the policy.
