Real Estate Appraiser Consumer Information

The District of Columbia Board of Real Estate Appraisers is governed by the “Non-Health Related Occupations and Professions Licensure Act of 1998” in compliance with Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA) and to:

  • Ensure the qualifications of appraisers are in compliance with the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation
  • Regulate the practices of all appraisal licenses in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) adopted by the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) of the Appraisal Foundation
  • Discipline appraisers who are in violation of the licensure law and regulations
  • Regulate the approval of appraisal courses

Board meetings are held every third Wednesday of each month and are open to the public. To access information regarding previous meetings, click here.

If you have an allegation of non-compliance against an appraiser who is licensed/certified with the DC Board of Real Estate Appraisers, please complete the complaint form and email to dcra.dcraopla@dc.gov with all supporting documents, including the appraisal report.
To request information regarding any disciplinary actions, a request will need to be submitted with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
To request a letter of certification of licensure to be sent to another state, download the form and mail to the address below with a $30 money order/cashier’s check/personal check:

The Appraisal Sub Committee (ASC) monitors each jurisdiction for compliance with the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989.  The findings are posted at www.asc.gov
