In preparation for the 59th Presidential Inauguration in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in coordination with the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), and pursuant to Mayor’s Order 2021-003, there will be a temporary suspension of all construction activities within the USSS security perimeter beginning Friday, January 15, 2021 and ending on Thursday, January 21, 2021 (please be advised that this period may be extended to January 24th).
Construction work within this perimeter may NOT resume until Friday, January 22, 2021 (or Monday, January 25, 2021 if the period is extended), in accordance with USSS and MPD directives related to the 59th Presidential Inauguration. The security perimeter established by the USSS stretches throughout most of the Central Business District and slightly beyond. If you have questions about whether your work site falls within the security perimeter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide the address of your work site.
During the specified time period, permit owners will need to secure all material and equipment behind locked construction fencing so that materials such as bricks and pipes cannot be easily obtained and used as weapons. If your construction site is not within this perimeter, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) encourages you to be prepared for any unplanned marches or protests arising outside of this designated area. Please govern your activities and work zones to ensure safe accommodations for pedestrians and protesters that may be close to, or inside your designated work zones.
As a reminder, normal construction activities outside of the USSS security perimeter in the District of Columbia is prohibited on holidays. In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18, 2021 and Inauguration Day, January 20, 2021, construction will not be allowed anywhere in the District of Columbia except where an after-hours permit has been approved. No after-hours permits will be approved for January 20, 2021. DCRA inspectors will be enforcing the no construction regulation.
